Project Explanation

Labels Are For Jars is a dynamic and exciting undertaking that raises money to operate the Cor Unum Meal Center, which feeds hungry people living in Lawrence, MA, one of the poorest cities in the United States.

Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to feed as many hungry people as possible, and to do so we have designed a thought provoking black t-shirt, which in addition to looking great, helps to undermine societal labeling. The shirt is adorned with a commonly used negative label, such as “addict”, “troubled teen”, or “mentally ill” on the chest, and “Labels Are For Jars” across the back.

The Labels Are For Jars line also includes the Labels Skull Cap by John Varvatos, personally designed by one of today’s most celebrated fashion designers, John Varvatos. The 100 percent marino black wool cap with grey stitching has a “hungry” label on the front and the Labels Are For Jars and John Varvatos logos on the back.

The shirts and caps are sold from our webstore and through direct sales groups in local communities called street teams. Street teams are primarily groups of high school and college students, who have a unique power to affect change in our society. Labels gear is also sold in all Newbury Comics retail stores.

We have packaged the shirts and caps in clear plastic jars with coin slots cut into the screw tops. We encourage you to fill the jar with money as often as possible, donate the accumulated funds regularly, and help to keep feeding the hungry.

Labels Are For Jars is comprised completely of volunteers, so every cent we collect is used to help feed the hungry in Lawrence.

We encourage all who purchase Labels gear to use their jars at home, school, or work to collect, as soon as possible, as much money as they can! With your help, we are making a huge difference in the lives of men, women, children, and families in Lawrence.
